On August 24, 2006, the FDA approved Plan BŪ, the dedicated emergency contraception (EC) product, for over-the-counter (OTC) sales to consumers ages 18 and older.

In Massachusetts, specially trained pharmacists with a standing order from a physician can assess the appropriateness of Plan BŪ for a particular woman and initiate a prescription.

These pharmacists can provide Plan BŪ to:

  • women under 18,
  • women without ID,
  • or women who need a prescription for MassHealth or insurance coverage.

Click here for more information on obtaining standing orders.
